Tiger Woods wins in Dubai, overtaking Ernie Els

Tiger Woods had an off-day on Saturday, putting himself 4-strokes behind leader Ernie Els. Then, on Sunday, Tiger turned into Tiger again and shot a final round 7-under 65 including birdies on the final 2 holes, to win the Dubai Desert Classic by 1 stroke over Martin Kaymer. That makes it 5 tournament wins in a row dating back to 2007 for Tiger. It also keeps Tiger's perfect 2008 season intact. Tiger has not lost a tournament this year.

Big Ernie shot a disappointing 71 today, to finish two strokes behind Tiger. Ernie had a chance on 18 to force a playoff with a birdie, but unfortunately he found water after going for the green. Poor Ernie, a victory would have been a major step for his psyche. I'm reminded of this old quote attributed to Tiger Woods in 2006: "Tiger certainly doesn't hate Ernie other than some of his former agents, who could hate Ernie? but, before heading out with Els to play the third round at Hoylake in 2006, Woods turned to somebody on the practice putting green and said coldly, 'If I can break this big guy's heart just one more time, maybe he'll go away and stay away.'"
